Fishing and Sailing

Fishing

Castle Loch is one of Britain’s premier coarse fishing sites and is the only fishery to have ever held three national Scottish records at the same time. Currently the loch holds the Scottish Record Tench and the Scottish Record Bream, and recently regained the Scottish Record Carp title which it previously held for over 5 years. The loch isn’t a commercial fishery and rewards are not always instant, however it is always a pleasure to enjoy some of the UKs best bream, tench, carp, and pike fishing.

Fishing at Castle Loch is managed by independent water bailiffs and is by a day permit system, which must be purchased prior to fishing. Fishing is free to Lochmaben residents. Further information about fishing at the loch and bailiff contact details are available online at Castle Loch Fishery. Please do not start fishing without a permit as you will be asked to leave by the bailiffs.

Castle Loch AGM: 7.30pm in the Church Hall on Prince’s Street – all Members are welcome to attend. Updates, refreshments and nominations and voting in of the Trust’s Board. Short talk from Freda Seddon about ‘Bats at the Loch’. If you would like to be part of the Board, email your interest via the website.

Sailing

Annandale Sailing Club is a small friendly club and can provide both sheltered waters for the nervous beginners and an interesting test for those who appreciate the subtleties of inland racing. In either case, it’s a most beautiful place to be at any time of the year. The club’s main activity is dinghy racing and there is a vigorous programme of training geared to getting sailors to a high level of local and national success. However, with activities on four days of the week in summer and sailing all the year round there is plenty of opportunity for the more relaxed to participate. The Club has great facilities catering for dinghy sailors, racing, cadets and plenty of social activities and have a thriving laser fleet, as well as, Optimists, Toppers, GP14, Mirrors and other boats including Blaze, Wayfarer and Picos.

The club organise regular racing and training during the week; Tuesday is training and Thursday and Sunday dedicated to racing. As well as sailing the club is always a hive of activity with on and off water events such as lots of impromptu BBQs in summer months and other social events throughout the year including our annual December prize giving event, all with an emphasis on sailing, bringing the members together and lots and lots of fun.

Annandale prides itself on being a friendly, sociable and family friendly club and would be delighted to see you and for you to become part of this great club.
